technical expertise.About the roleLooking for a Sr. Fire Protection
Engineer to be focused on the practices of fire inspection and
applicable building inspection, support the implementation and
maintenance of fire prevention and/or fire protection programs and
procedures to minimize personnel injury and/or property damage at
the main sites and at off-site leased RT Kennecott locations. The
Role will report to Asset Integrity, Health, and System Manager.The
candidate will incorporate fire prevention and fire protection
standards to ensure compliance with all Rio Tinto Guidance Notes
and Department of Energy (DOE) fire protection-related orders,
policies, and procedures and is in accordance with National Fire
Protection Association (NFPA), and other Federal, State, and local
agencies. The incumbent will be responsible for the Fire Prevention
code enforcement and/or building construction of Fire Protection
and Life Safety Systems, including performing plan review.The goal
of the Asset Integrity Fire Protection Program (AIFPP) is to
minimize the potential for occurrence of a fire or related event;
fires that cause an unacceptable release of hazardous or
radiological material that could impact the health and safety of
employees, the public, or the environment; unacceptable
interruption of vital RTK programs as a result of fire and related
hazards; property loss from fire exceeding limits established by
DOE and Group Risk Finance; and fire damage to mission critical
processThe role is responsible for:
- Improving productivity of people, equipment, and work quality
by eliminating potential delays and obstacles to efficient work
execution.
- Recommending and implementing fire system and design changes to
improve the processes.
- Under leadership of the Asset Integrity Manager and having an
understanding and experience in fire prevention, fire protection
engineering, plan review, and inspection experience, the incumbent
uses professional concepts and business objectives and risks to
analyze, plan, schedule, and coordinate the implementation of the
Fire Protection and Engineering Program.
- Resolves fire protection and life safety gaps in a
collaborative, creative, and effective way.
- Fire Protection Engineering and Code Enforcement:
- Responsible for the implementation and ensures success of the
following programs and activities to include administration of the
Hot Work Program, Pre-Incident Plan Program, and collaboration with
Facilities and Environment, Health & Safety Divisions.
- Plans, coordinates, and implements the recommendations to
reports such as the Baseline Needs Assessment, Facility Assessments
(FA), Critical Risk Assessment Fire Management System Assessment
and Fire Protection Self-Assessments.
- Building Construction Fire Protection Systems to include:
- Reviews and analyzes building construction and renovation
documents required for new construction or modifications of
existing facilities to determine appropriate fire prevention
measures and implements solutions as appropriate to ensure safety
and compliance.
- Responsible for ensuring that all construction activities are
performed to the approved plans through inspections and
commissioning.
- participates in design development meetings to review new
construction projects or modifications of existing buildings.What
you will bringTo be successfully considered for this role, you will
have:
- Minimum 5 - 10 years of industrial maintenance/asset integrity
management experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering program (e.g., Fire
Protection, Mechanical) or Physical Sciences program or equivalent
in education and experience with a minimum of two (2) years of
related fire protection engineering / fire prevention experience,
and either (1) licensure as a Fire Protection Engineer; or (2)
demonstrated coursework and objective efforts to obtain licensure
within three years of hire date.
- Demonstrated organizational skills to establish priorities and
ensure completion of a wide range of projects in a timely
manner.
- Experience and working knowledge in the areas of fire
prevention and inspection program planning and management, fire
alarm and detection systems, building design review for fire and
life safety systems, inspection, testing, and maintenance
procedures for fire alarm and water-based suppression systems, hot
work permits, fire prevention training, and fire response protocols
and procedures.
- Ability to successfully interact with both internal and
external stakeholdersIt will also be beneficial if you have:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage solid and dotted line accountabilities.
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office software
