Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal/Sr Principal Technical Editor and Writer. This position will be located in Roy, Utah and will support the Sentinel (GBSD) program. This position may be filled at multiple levels depending on candidate experience and education.

What You'll Get To Do:

The selected candidate will write, rewrite and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications. You will be required to communicate clearly and effectively using Extensible Markup Language (XML) and adhering to an S1000D specification and instructions to a United Sates Air Force (USAF) customer.
Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • The position includes authoring and/or editing technical documents such as Air Force technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
  • Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to Air Force technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.
  • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
  • Conducts quality review of materials.This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

    Job Qualifications:

    You'll Bring These Qualifications:
    • At least 10 years of relevant experience with Bachelor's Degree; or 8 years' experience with Master's Degree. In lieu of formal degree, High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and at least 12 years of relevant experience in a related field
    • Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards
    • In depth knowledge of DoD industry/International writing standard practices (S1000D, Mil-STD-38784)
    • Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents.
    • 12+ years' experience writing XML or SGML
    • 5 years' experience training/mentoring junior level writers to S1000D standard and developing writer training guides
    • 5 years' experience training EVMS processes to technical writing staff
    • Ability to obtain DoD secret clearance and maintain PARThese Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
      • Experience with the Eagle/EPS publishing system
      • Experience with Siemens PLM, Teamcenter and NX
      • Experience in utilizing the USAF Flight Manual or Maintenance Manual change process
      • Experience writing in XML/S1000D International Specification for Technical Publications/IETM/Data Module writing (Arbortext, EAGLE, XMetal, or similar program)
      • Experience in an electronic/avionic field or in a Department of Defense (DoD) maintenance background.

        Salary Range: $81,600 USD - $122,400 USD

        Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
