Contract (181 Day Calendar)
FTE: 1.0

Starting wage: $21.00 per hour (86-T)

Purpose Statement
The Preschool Instructor teaches and supervises preschool students, ensuring compliance with program requirements, assisting with parent education programs, and coordinating communications with parents.
This position reports to the Principal.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree OR Child Development Certificate
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate
  • Knowledgeable of Pre-K classroom teaching and management skills, age appropriate activities, stages of child development, Individual Education Plans (IEP) and concepts of learning.
  • Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment; phone, copy and fax machines etc. Preferred Qualifications
    • Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Early Childhood development or related field strongly preferred. Essential Functions
      • Assess student learning, participation and/or skills for the purpose of providing quality, age-appropriate instruction.
      • Supervise academic enrichment activities (e.g. class activities, field trips, visits by guests, etc.) guiding students in learning from those enhancements.
      • Prepare teaching materials and related reports, document student progress (e.g. attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) and implement lesson plans.
      • Provide for the individual needs of students (e.g. assistive devices, supportive technology, assistance accessing facilities, etc.) to ensure access to a quality educational program.
      • Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment, and report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, neglect, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to ensure compliance with administrative, school polices, state and federal law.
      • Collaborate with school personnel and parents to improve the quality of student outcomes, develop solutions, plan curriculum, convey information on student progress and encouraging parental involvement.
      • Perform record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, data recording, etc.) to support the administrator
      • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
      • Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or or gathering information required to perform functions.
      • Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
      • Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
      • Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
      • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
      • As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 40 pounds.
      • Other duties as assigned.
        Working Environment
        The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
