Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems designs, builds and delivers
space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the
world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related
propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense
electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition;

advanced aerospace structures. Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems
Group in Clearfield, Utah is seeking an experienced Design
Engineering Manager Functional Management of Design Team: Coaching,
Mentoring, and Performance Evaluation. This includes working with
each group member to set yearly goals and objectives, Monitor
progress throughout the year, and complete formal year end
evaluations. Identify training needs and coordinate group training
activities. Staffing: Assemble and maintain high performing teams.
Forecast staffing needs, manage staff levels to meet budget
requirements and program needs. Work with other departments
managers to identify resource sharing opportunities. Recruit new
talent when needed: Write job descriptions, review applicants, and
conduct phone and on-site interviews. Overhead Budget Management:
Work with finance department to set overhead budget needs. Manage
resources and staff to meet budget goals. Program Support: Primary
responsibility is to support programs by providing resources. Other
responsibilities may include budgeting and cost management (EVMS),
project planning, and serving as a senior technical advisor.
Business Development/Marketing: Support proposals with cost
estimates, technical planning, and document writing. Support
marketing activities with written and oral presentations. Provide
input on business opportunities and strategy. Tools, Methods, and
Procedures: Ensure that the team has the tools available to perform
their jobs effectively and efficiently. Evaluate new software tools
and changes to existing tools to meet program and department needs
and requirements. Provide input on quantities of software licenses
and identify ways to manage/reduce costs. Evaluate design and
analysis methods and provide guidance on best practices and proper
use. Maintain and create department procedures and best practices.
Provide input on Management Directives concerning the Design and
Analysis functions. Other requirements and skills: Ability to solve
complex problems with efficient methods Strong understanding of the
Design of composite structures: composite materials, laminates,
sandwich structures, bonded and fastened joints (including
dissimilar composite materials and composites to metals),
manufacturing processes, and failure criteria and predictive
methods - classical and numerical solutions. To meet program
objectives, a focus on low cost manufacturable design solutions is
