Job Summary
- Creates engineering designs for industrial material handling
storage systems. Typical projects include the design and
installation of industrial steel storage racks, structural steel
platforms, conveyor support structures, shelving, elevated
walkways, and custom designed products in large distribution
centers. Offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and
advancement. May lead project work and provide direction to
less-senior team members.
Responsibilities:
- Performs diverse, specialized and complex work involving
significant accountability and decision-making responsibility
- Designs new automated and semi-automated material handling
systems and proposes modifications to existing equipment;
customizes standard designs based on customer specifications and
scope documents
- Creates description of operation documents to ensure designs
meet customer expectations
- Creates approval, permit, installation, and fabrication
drawings using AutoCAD
- Obtains material and product quotes from vendors and issues
purchase orders and estimates costs
- Monitors the project schedule, engineering time line, and
material costs
- Works with other disciplines on project team to make sure
engineered solution and all equipment fit within system confines
and constraints
- Leads and directs the work of less-senior project engineers and
designers
- Travels up to 30%
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or
related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering design and
project execution
- Minimum of 7 years of engineering or construction experience,
preferably in the material handling industry
- Proficient in AutoCAD; working knowledge of Microsoft Office,
Microsoft Project, SharePoint and Visio
- Ability to speak Japanese is a plus
- Ability to handle multiple project assignments and adapt to
changing priorities in a fast-paced results-oriented
environment
- Ability to interface effectively with internal and external
customers, vendors, consulting engineers, architects, and
installers
- Ability to lead work teams and projects effectively
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
- Team-oriented and collaborative
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented
- Ability to learn new technology
