Job SummaryAssociate Director reports to the Director of Stadium & Arena Event Services and Director of Auxiliary Services Finance, who reports to the Assistant Vice President for Auxiliary Services. The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership, direction, management, and vision for financial operations at Rice-Eccles Stadium and the Jon M. Huntsman Center.The position develops and implements policies, programs and financial objectives for assigned departments in relation to the accounting and finance function, including (but not limited to) general accounting, payroll, cost accounting and budget formulation. Participates in preparing department budget and in setting department goals. Ensure continuity and quality customer service between departments and community.
Responsibilities

  • Manages departments' budgets, estimates budgetary requirements for special projects and oversees purchasing and capital inventory.
    • Directs and coordinates work related to accounting functions, such as payroll, accounts payable, financial reporting, etc.
      • Monitors actual departmental operating expenses to assure compliance with budgetary limitations.
        • Prepare Annual, Quarterly, Monthly and other ad hoc financial reports and analysis as requested.
          • Conduct business and financial analysis to identify trends and suggest solutions to management.
            • Prepare detailed sales reports and analysis regarding Concessions activity and other events coordinated and held on site.
              • Develops and implements financial objectives for assigned departments consistent with University's Goals and objectives. Assists other departments in setting short and long-term goals.
                • Develops, installs and modifies accounting systems and procedures. Interprets financial accounting policies for staff and other University personnel.
                  • Ensures proper accounting policies, such as segregation of duties and other internal controls, are updated and being adhered to.
                    • Review contract term sheet with Director and prepare event Proforma.
                      • Act as the primary contact with Athletics, and other promoters, for all financial transactions, such as ticket deposits, rents, and pre and post event settlements.
                        • Attend all major events to provide real time financial data to management.
                          • Serve as part of the SAES management team.
                            • Other duties and assigned.Problem Solving:The problems encountered by this position will be as varied as the events and services provided. The challenge and scope of safely hosting 45-50,000 guests in Rice-Eccles Stadium and 15,000 in Jon M. Huntsman Center venues' is top priority. The position many times will need to act as a mediator or negotiator to see that the event needs are met and that University policies and procedures are followed. The position many times will need to "do more with less" and creatively find ways to accomplish tasks within a budget and with limited resources. In all cases decisions should be based on customer needs, balancing with University policies.
                              Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master's degree in Business Administration or related area preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
                              PreferencesA CPA and/or Master's degree in Business Administration or related area is greatly preferred. Candidate must have strong Excel skills.
