The successful candidate for Permitting Project Manager position will report to the Senior Permitting Manager out of our Louisville, CO or Salt Lake City, UT office and can also be remote. Duties will include management of permitting and land use entitlement, coordination with AHJs, representing AES projects at public hearings, and supporting environmental diligence efforts. The position involves coordination with developers, real estate, execution, community relations and other groups within AES. The successful candidate will have the ability to succeed in managing multiple projects and supporting business development efforts in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.

  • Ability to instill confidence as a credible, reliable, and expert support resource for team members on technical matters. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Permitting PM will partner with cross-functional teams in activities leading to the successful execution and delivery/hand-off of new solar projects to the Execution Team for construction and operations. Specific duties will include:

    Secure land use permits for new and acquired solar power generating facilities across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions for projects in MISO and SPP.

    Manage technical and environmental studies for PV solar and battery storage development.

    Identify and implement novel mitigation strategies to reduce project cost and impact.

    Successfully negotiate project design and mitigation measures with local, state, and federal regulators to ensure project success while understanding project constraints.

    Select, manage, and guide contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timeline and budget. Draft original text for use in project origination support, public education, and investor reporting materials.

    Identify and mitigate environmental risk.

    Obtain required permits and seamlessly transfer to the Execution team Project Manager (PM) and Compliance Permitting Manager for construction management. Provide ongoing support to the PMs, as required, throughout the construction and some aspects of the operations process.

    Act as a representative for AES in meetings with the community, elected officials, and regulators.

    Assist in cost reduction initiatives, vendor development, and invoice audits. Knowledge of and ability to obtain local discretionary and ministerial permits. Understanding of local requirements, processes, timelines, and costs in project jurisdictions and share information for project budgets, plans, schedules and third-party EPC Agreements.

    Desired Skills and Expertise:
    • Undergraduate or graduate degree in environmental sciences, geography or related field.
    • 5+ years proven track record of permitting expertise in development, preferably in utility-scale environment.
    • Knowledge of state siting and permitting processes and state regulations within the MISO and SPP RTOs, and federal permitting as needed.
    • Project and case leadership skills including a strong curiosity about managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Ability to communicate efficiently in verbal and written correspondence.
    • Experienced in environmental analysis, diligence, and environmental regulations.
    • Knowledge of solar renewable energy construction process; real estate development; renewable energy projects/assets evaluation and acquisition.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, project management software, ESRI ArcGIS and Google Earth preferred.
    • Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision.

      The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $85.000 and $114.750/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
