Waterford.org is a nonprofit education partner that has a mission to blend the best aspects of learning science, mentoring relationships, and innovative technologies to form community, school, and home programs that deliver excellence and equity for all learners.
The Waterford UPSTART program prepares 4- and 5-year-old children for kindergarten and includes a strong parent support model. Launched in 2009, the program has grown to more than 15,000 participants in 2018. Longitudinal studies demonstrate that Waterford UPSTART graduates outperform nonparticipants, regardless of demographics, and the greatest gains were seen in at-risk populations. Additionally, these sustained gains continue through the 4th grade.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Public Relations Manager will develop PR strategy to build timely, relevant content to drive media coverage, working closely with executives, partners, subject matter authorities, and in-house researchers to craft compelling content and stories, and advocate on behalf of the Waterford UPSTART home-based kindergarten readiness program with external partners and the media across all communication channels and vehicles.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
--- Work with the National Waterford UPSTART team on marketing, media, and public relations strategy
--- Coordinate messaging with Waterford internal marketing team
--- Work with PR firm on strategy both locally and nationally
--- Coordinate Waterford UPSTART day-to-day public relations activities
--- Collaborate on Waterford UPSTART content and strategy with digital and social media teams
--- Track all crisis communications issues as they arise
--- Manage Waterford UPSTART media inquiries and interview requests
--- Maintain relationships with reporters, editors, bloggers, media influencers, and media outlets
--- Create content for Waterford UPSTART press releases, byline articles, and keynote presentations
--- Monitor, analyze, and communicate PR results on a quarterly basis
--- Compile media reports, media distribution lists, and client status reports, as needed
--- May organize and execute press events, meetings, and related Waterford UPSTART activities
SKILLS & EDUCATION REQUIRED
--- Five years of PR experience working at a local, regional, and national level
--- Strong project management skills
--- Deep understanding of communications strategies
--- Versatile and proven writer with the ability to write under pressure and on deadline
--- Demonstrated experience writing/editing press releases, web content, proposals, and other forms of content
--- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once with competing deadlines
--- A good understanding of online and offline media and is knowledgeable about local, regional, and national media outlets
--- Ability to "pitch" media with compelling story ideas for Waterford UPSTART
--- Exhibits good interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with team members
--- Works in a professional and positive manner as a team member, team/project leader, and program representative.
--- Can multi-task and use common sense to get things done
--- Is self-motivated, shows confidence and initiative in going beyond what is required in Primary Job Responsibilities
