Job Description:This Advanced Practice Provider will join our IP
Lahey Service at Primary Children's Hospital. We are a
collaborative service of residents, fellows and an attending
physician, caring for patients with hematologic and oncologic
diagnoses who are admitted to the hospital due to complications of
their malignancy, complications of their treatment, palliative
care, or for chemotherapy. Average daily census is 12-20 patients
on this service. We work closely with multidisciplinary team
members to provide support and care to patients.
The APP provider will typically be scheduled to work every Friday
through Monday with potential for providing some service as out of
the hospital, call on Saturday and Sunday. This provider will
support holiday coverage as well.
Assignments will be distributed amongst providers to offer service
and continuity. This position may have options for rotation with
the IP chemotherapy service.
Responsibilities may include complete & comprehensive history and
physical examination, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic
studies, and prescribing appropriate treatments in collaboration
with the attending physician. Additional responsibilities include
consultation with specialist physicians and other team members
regarding findings/changes in patient condition, initiation and
adjustment of chemotherapy orders in collaboration with the
physician, timely documentation of patient care per policy, and
ensuring longitudinal communications with primary
hematologist/oncologist. May include preparation and arrangements
for patients discharging in the following days. This provider may
also be responsible for procedures including lumbar puncture
with/without intrathecal chemotherapy administration, bone marrow
biopsy and bone marrow aspirate.
Given the complexity of patient populations and high-acuity of
care, this position will also orient with and collaborate with the
IP chemotherapy team as well as the Lahey service. Comprehensive
procedure training and on-boarding to Intermountain Healthcare and
EHR will take place during orientation. Length of orientation is
individualized based on prior experience, comfort and competency
with necessary skills.Prior clinical oncology experience is vital

Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are accountable for the
provision of patient care at the top of licensure, within their
scope of practice. APP's are licensed, credentialed and privileged
to perform such duties as:

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and
visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as
hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues
quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency
situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and
delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes
frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care,
accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer
patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and
equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and
including heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and
obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes
pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy
items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of
equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
