VP Area U of U Health - Academics Department 01101 - Pediatric Clinical Enterprise Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range $24.62 - $36.64 Close Date Open Until Filled Yes Job Summary The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a Registered Nurse to function as a member of the triage team. This position will provide triage nursing support to the divisions of Adolescent Medicine and Pediatric Nephrology. Will deliver professional nursing care to patients by utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status; implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms; develop, implement and evaluate patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment. Responsibilities 1.Identifies, assesses and diagnoses problems through patient assessment and interactions, and evaluates actual or potential patient health problems. 2.Performs phone management with patients' parents, chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management. 3.Discusses patient and family concerns over the phone and/or via the electronic health record. 4.Provides patient/family education surrounding condition. 5.Assesses, plans and implements interventions for solving patient care problems. 6.Formulates care plans for specific patients and documents the nursing process in patient's record. 7.Evaluates patient response to interventions and modifies plan of care as needed to achieve health care goals. Communicates adjustments or changes in treatment plans to patient/family. 8.Develops and participates in educating patients and their families about care programs. 9.Initiates patient care meetings with the health care team to revise the plan of care as the patient's condition warrants. 10.Communicates lab & other test results to families. 11.Provides medication refills. 12.Assists providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity,DMVforms, school care plans, and medication preauthorization. 13.Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment. 14.Works closely with triage team to provide high quality, efficient care to patients and their families. 15.Keeps current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs. 16.Orients and educates new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures. 17.Provides and oversees direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocol and physicians' orders. 18.Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precaution, and initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations. 19.Participates in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care. The above responsibilities will be shared with other nurses and medical assistants in the Department. Incumbent will be expected to provide high quality patient care in an organization focused on patient safety, patient and parent satisfaction, and positive patient outcomes; advocates for patients and families to ensure unique needs are met; collaborates with highly skilled team members dedicated to achieving patient goals and providing world class care; actively participates in educational opportunities. Education in patient management is ongoing with the help of division practitioners and support staff. Minimum Qualifications Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah or equivalency required. *If licensed in a compact state a Utah State license must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or must obtain one within one month of hire required. Strong organizational and leadership skills as well as demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required. Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within one year of hire.
