Job Description:
Job Title: Retail Store Cashier Normally Reports to: Store
Manager Job Objective: Every full or part-time sales associate is
responsible for the proper and efficient operation of his or her
shift, within company policy, in such a manner as to ensure that
the shift contributes to the increase profitability of the store.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: In addition to the essential
job functions described below, all associates will perform duties
requested by management. Assigned responsibilities and duties may
vary based upon location size and operation. General
ManagementObserves shift operation hours at all times, as assigned
by the Store ManagerPerforms specific task assigned by Store
ManagerAssist the Store Manager in seeing that the store maintains
a store-inspection grade of at least 90% on the store-inspection
reportGives all customers prompt and courteous serviceFollows the
work schedule as posted, unless a change in schedule is arranged
with Store ManagerAttend store meetingsStays familiar with company
price book, operations manual, and bulletinsEnsures Store Manager
is made aware of all sales, cash, or operation discrepancies.
Operates shift within company guidelines to achieve sales and
profitOperate the register and related business machinesAccurate
handling of cash and reporting Check in vendors and gas
deliveriesStock warehouse orders BookkeepingPrepare a shift-change
report at the completion of shift in accordance with company
guidelinesNotifies Store Manager of any discrepancies in the
operation results on the shift report, cash over, or shift
conditions in excess or $5.00 within 24 hoursAssures proper sale
and accounting for lottery tickets during shift, as described in
the operations manualRings all sales as per trainingAccurately
posts markups and markdowns, store use of merchandise, and
bad-merchandise write-off's, within the established
guidelinesCounts the cigarette inventory on every shift, including
counting and calculating. PersonnelAdvise Store Manager of any
personnel situations or policy violations having an adverse effect
on store operating performance SecurityShares the responsibility
for controlling the inventory on the shift or in the storeFollows
company policy with regard to excessive cash in registers, change
box, and safe security, as directed by Store ManagerCompletes a
shift-balance report at the end of the shift, as directed by Store
ManagerFollows correct vendor check-in procedures as defined in the
operations manual and as directed by Store ManagerProtects all
company assets at all times Merchandising Keeps coolers, drink
boxes, store shelves, and displays fully stocked and fronted at all
timesProperly cleans and maintains equipment and readies
high-margin products such as coffee, fountain drinks, etc., as
directed by Store ManagerUses correct pricing as listed in the
price book or grocery catalog for all merchandiseUse plus-selling
techniques as directed by Store Manager MaintenanceKeeps store
floors clean at all times (sweeping and mopping), with specific
responsibility being assigned by the Store ManagerChecks
refrigeration equipment for proper performance, a minimum of one
time per shiftCleans windows, floors, shelving, counters, and gas
pumps to ensure they remain clean at all timesPick up trash and
empty trash cansCheck pump paperFollows the weekly maintenance
schedule as assigned by Store ManagerImmediately advises Store
Manager of any maintenance problemsReading the TLM & manually
checking the fuel inventory tanks using a stick, should the TLM
become inoperable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Be able to
read, understand, and write the English language at a high school
level, including the ability to hear spoken workBe able to perform
arithmetical calculations at the eight-grade level in order to be
able to make change, complete shift reports, and account for
numbers of a variety of products during vendor check-inHave
sufficient visual acuity to check identification.Be able to read
and understand instructions for operating electronic cash registers
and other equipmentBe able to lift 50 pounds, carrying cases of
milk cartons, soft drinks, and juicesBe able to physically stock
shelves and coolersBe able to react to a fire by lifting a fire
extinguisher weighing 20 pounds and moving it to the fire areaBe
able to tolerate exposure to gasoline fumes and cleaning productsBe
able to sweep and mop floors, dust shelves, and lift and carry out
trash containers and place in an outside binBe able to clean the
parking lot and grounds surrounding the convenience storeBe able to
enter and work in a cooler at a temperature of 30 degrees and a
freezer as low as 0 degrees up to 30 minutes at a timeBe able to
change out reader board messages and gas prices on the price signs
