Job Description

The Corporate Attorney will play an integral role in negotiating complex, strategic commercial agreements for Payscale's rapidly growing revenue function, and have a direct impact on achieving Payscale's business goals. This individual will drive valuable sales agreements, including the negotiation of novel, bespoke agreements. The Corporate Attorney will collaborate cross-functionally with sales, finance, services, security, and other Payscale functions to successfully resolve contractual issues creatively, with a customer-first mentality. This individual will provide legal advice and guidance to internal teams regarding both business and legal risks, and propose solutions that balance multiple stakeholder interests.

As a critical member of Payscale's legal team, this individual will also be responsible for the process and agreements supporting Payscale's customer success function. In addition, this role will have the opportunity to identify and implement processes and programs to address legal inefficiencies and better support Payscale's internal and external customers. As Payscale is a software company in the compensation space, this role will develop a deep understanding of Payscale's products and services in order to successfully advocate on behalf of Payscale during discussions with Customers.

The ideal candidate will have a business-forward and problem-solving point of view, with the ability to prioritize well, present to and interact productively with stakeholders across Payscale, build positive relationships, and think strategically. An interest in learning and a genuine curiosity will lead to success, and creativity is a valued attribute. We are looking for someone who can join the existing team in building a modern and innovative legal department.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Strong writing and contract drafting skills, adept at putting together and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements
  • Creative problem-solver who can drive transactions and analyze and help resolve complex issues in innovative and practical ways
  • Excellent communicator who is able to articulate complex and nuanced legal issues clearly and concisely to frontline business
  • Ability to design, gather support, and implement legal initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently and balance a large volume of transactions and projects simultaneously under pressure
  • Professional, with cultural awareness/sensitivity and principled ethical standards.
  • Ability to identify and raise issues appropriately.
  • Able to work well with all levels and departments.
    Education/Experience
    • 5+ years' experience as a practicing attorney, J.D. required
    • Strong preference for in-house experience involving software/technology
    • Familiarity with SaaS agreements a plus
