VP, Group Account Director


The VP, Group Account Director, a member of the office Senior Leadership Team, is responsible for leading the client relationship, overseeing all areas of the business managed by local MRM office and guiding the client relationship, overall agency scope, and agency strategy such that the agency is positioned for long-term relationships and growth. Focus on increasing organic and new business growth through increasing agency visibility and perceived value among senior clients and network agency partners. Additionally, the VP, GAD is responsible for team management and productivity, relationship profitability, as well as, process efficiencies including use of resources to meet profit margin, revenue & utilization goals.


Responsible for ensuring assigned account is delivering against overall account & executive management goals.


Responsible for oversight of assigned account client relationship including -

  • Accountable for client and agency success. Proactively drives strategic direction for the business with senior clients and agency partners - continually looks for business opportunities and proactively pitches ideas to client
  • Acts as senior lead on business around customer journey strategy, asset and content development, digital innovation and execution
  • Leads strategic client negotiations and overseeing proposal development including overall scope, staffing, fee expectations and negotiations
  • Develops and maintains trust-based cross-organizational senior client relationships. Acts as business and marketing counsel; is an expert in the client's business; intimately understands client business and marketing challenges
  • Fully understands the client's ecosystem with a thorough understanding of client contacts, corporate structure and relationship dynamics and ensuring best fitting MRM team assignments
  • Continually looks for "connective tissue" within client's business, finding opportunities to bring together client groups for greater efficiency or impact, or cross-sell services or ideas across groups, countries or divisions
  • Develops long term strategic plans and leads client's strategic vision within the agency, functioning as client's engagement visionary
  • Seek out and deliver upon value-add activities (including market insights and competitive reports and proactive design and authoring of marketing strategies) through McCann Worldgroup network, MRM offices and other resources to continuously bring clients thought-leadership, new ideas and opportunities for innovation
  • Continually monitors health of agency relationship and overall delivery against scope. Maps and leads action against relationship plans. Implements agency scorecards to seek honest feedback about the agency's performance and puts action plan in place. Conducts QBR, post-mortem meetings and other avenues for feedback
  • Identifies opportunities for agency growth; marshals and delivers agency resources against opportunities for business development
  • Works with other agency or network leads to ensure that best practices are shared among accounts - actively looks for crossover opportunities
  • Informs and holds accountable agency discipline leaders and direct reports for delivering against approved scope and development opportunities. Acts as escalation point for ensuring superb client delivery
  • Frequently informs and involves agency executive leadership and global lead


  • Directly responsible for strategic oversight of team working on assigned account.
  • Act as escalation point. Assist with process refinement and oversee all cross-department delivery
  • Active participant in positive agency culture. Sets tone for collaborative and respectful intra-agency working relationships
  • Ensures agency & client policies are communicated, understood and followed by team
  • Ensures career development plans are in place; takes leadership role in training, mentoring & providing continuous feedback.
  • Ensures team does the same with downstream through performance evaluations and regular meetings
  • Participates in agency management meetings and contributes to the overall company direction
  • Identifies capability gaps in servicing client needs and recommends solutions
  • Partners with senior project management, strategy, creative, Development, Technology and other departments as an equally accountable team for strategic vision, quality of the work, growth plans, and financial performance. Uses account insights to act as an opinion leader to agency leadership team
  • Keeps global lead and executive management apprised of account status, new business opportunities, and personnel issues


  • Reports client financial health status, pipeline, reconciliation and forecasting to executive management and Global Lead
  • Overall responsibility for meeting account profitability and growth goals
  • Identifies opportunities and consistently develops and updates plans for account growth
  • Oversees and has thorough knowledge of account specific contracts and implications and ensures team adherence to agency and client rules
  • Responsible for requesting, managing and tracking agency investments as well as managing write offs and working with Operations to devise solutions
  • Oversees team responsibilities for revenue, expenses and efficiencies within the account and monitors utilization of team with solid tracking and reporting processes
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years related Agency experience highly preferred
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to drive strategic vision and track record in establishing and growing senior client relationships
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Proven ability to lead, manage and motivate teams
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred (MBA preferred)
  • Large client brand experience in agency
  • Previous senior client relationship lead in agency
  • Demonstrated record of growth
  • B2B marketing experience and high-tech marketing experience
  • Digital, omnichannel and connected experiences -- site, content, CRM, marketing automation, analytics, digital innovation
  • Team and revenue management
  • Working with other agencies in and out of network
