Schedule:Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday (40 hrs/wk)2:00 PM - 12:30 AMTraining Schedule:Monday - Thursday (40 hrs/wk)8:00 AM - 6:30 PMDepartment: Molecular Oncology - 656Primary Purpose:Medical Laboratory Scientist I/Technologist I, Certified ($24.50) provides services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Performs routine and complex laboratory tests in an assigned department of the clinical laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results. Works under the direction of specialist, lead, and/or supervisor.This position is not qualified for delegation of supervisory duties for NY testing areas.Technologist, Trainee ($18.38) is a training position, preparing the employee to work independently as a limit license scientist (Technologist) and to further gain ASCP certification within five years. Works under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Certified Technologist, or Technologist in providing services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory services area.Technologist Trainees at ARUP must have a Bachelor's degree in the chemical or biological sciences with the following course requirements (including at least one upper division class needed in relevant biology or chemistry):o 25 credits of pertinent biology, 16 credits of chemistry, and 3 credits of matho 25 credits of chemistry, 16 credits of pertinent biology, and 3 credits of matho 16 credits of chemistry, 16 credits of pertinent biology, and 3 credits of mathSpecific courses may also be required:Chemistry: Quantitative Analysis/Analytical ChemistryMicrobiology: Medical MicrobiologyHematology: HematologyImmunohematology: Immunology and GeneticsAfter hire, must work for one year under the direction of a laboratory technologist.Note: Applications will be accepted from candidates who are scheduled to graduate at the end of the current academic term.About ARUP:ARUP Laboratories is a national clinical and anatomic pathology reference laboratory and an enterprise of the University of Utah and its Department of Pathology.
