Job Description:

Embark, a national innovator in mental health care is pleased to announce the opportunity for a Registered Nurse who is looking for PRN hours and is passionate about adolescent healthcare. This individual will be providing care to adolescents in a short term residential treatment setting, as well as engaging and supporting family members. Our unique approach at Hobble Creek is multi-systemic and emphasizes the power of relationships.

General Summary: Responsible to care for medical emergencies and for the general medical needs of the students. Responsible for sorting and passing out medications accurately.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Respond to reports of pain or sickness as they arise and assess the student.
  2. Determine when a student is to be placed on sick bed due to illness or pain.
  3. Accompany students to medical appointments; communicate findings to the students' parents and to the Clinical Director.
  4. Check the vital signs and weight of students as assigned.
  5. Accurately disperse student medications and make record in the Medication Administration Record.
  6. Count and track narcotics every shift.
  7. Monitor students in regard to mood, behavior and affect, and then chart the findings. (Particularly when a student is starting a new medication.)
  8. Correlate lab draws for the students.
  9. Administer, read, and record Tuberculosis tests.
  10. Communicate any pertinent medical information to the Treatment Team and the Psychiatrist either verbally or in written form.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of standard medical terminology and technique.
  2. Knowledge of legal charting procedure and requirements.
  3. Knowledge of medications and procedure for medication administration.
  4. Knowledge of company policies and practices.
  5. Skill in using nursing tools and equipment (e.g., needles, thermometers, diagnostic tests, stethoscope, blood pressure cuffs, etc.)
  6. Skill in assessing the physical condition of the students.
  7. Skill in communicating medical situations accurately to students, parents, and co-workers.
  8. Ability to use word processing software and to navigate networks.
  9. Experience or knowledge of health insurance submission processes.
  10. Ability to check vital signs.

Education and Experience:

The position requires a nursing license (RN), a driver license, and current CPR certification. Nursing experience is required.
