Western Governors University (WGU) is seeking an innovative proven program leader to help the College of Business (COB) create and grow industry critical, high quality, innovative business programs. We seek a dynamic and future-thinking leader who will help lead the vision, strategy, growth, and program roadmap to achieve this exciting and transformative mission.The Program Chair works with the Academic Program Director to ensure the integrity, excellence, national reputation, and continuous improvement of a portfolio of digital educational programs through leadership, innovation, partnerships, and the advancement of the business discipline. The chair will provide program-level leadership to cross-functional teams and be responsible for student outcomes, program performance, and financial goals. The chair drives the vision, strategy, and operational success for the program design, learning experience, market differentiators, and faculty training support models.Job ResponsibilitiesThe Program Chair is responsible for the program/product planning and execution throughout the Product Lifecycle, including: understanding customer needs and market dynamics to create engaging program offerings that support customer personas; defining the product vision and market differentiation; gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements; and working closely with operations, development, engineering, marketing, partnerships, enrollment, and support to ensure revenue and student success goals are met.The Program Chair is expected to work in three general areas:New program and product development-- to include leading market research, design, planning, building, marketing, and roll out.Deeply understand our customer needs and market opportunity through quantitative and qualitive researchDefine the product strategy and roadmap based on critical industry demand and requisite skills for jobs attainmentCreate business cases and conduct ROI analysis for new and existing programsDeliver business requirements documents (BRDs) with prioritized features and corresponding justification for program development, operations, and marketingCollaborate with Program Development, Operations, Marketing to ensure successful program pilots, launches, and revisions. This includes the following:Create and lead program advisory committees comprising employers and industry representativesCreate, measure, and communicate program outcomesPartner with design and development teams and other cross-functional teams to design the student experience, courses, micro-credentials, and programsPartner with the faculty training team to ensure faculty is prepared to support the on-time launch and implementation of all programs and coursesSet requirements for faculty quality and sufficiencyOwn the Go-to-Market Plan for programs and ensure Marketing, Enrollment, and Operations are trained in program offerings and that student experience from prospecting, to application, to enrollment, to term start is clear and effort-free for students.Existing product and program monitoring and refreshing-- monitor programs for student success, financial stability, and neededupdates. Lead projects to improve allareas of programs.Manage the program P&L to ensure profitable growth and ongoing efficiency to positively impact WGU.Lead the weekly, monthly, and quarterlyreviews of program quality, continuous improvement projects, student success, and financialperformanceIndustry associations and employer partners-- align programs with associations and employers. Develop pipeline with employers for job placement and re-skilling of existing employees.Work with WGU Partnerships and external third parties to assess and forge partnerships and licensingopportunitiesWork with Marketing and Partners teams to drive market growthParticipates through ongoing involvement in external professional, regulatory,and/or accreditation organizations and professionalcertificationsRequired Skills Track record of managing and growing program-level P&Ls and managing product performance metricsProven educational program or product management skillsAbility to dive deep into data and produce business insights and action plansProven success in designing and developing digital teaching and learning programsIn-depth knowledge of College of Business program areaAbility to collaborate with and work across teams toward a unified goal and earn trust of teamsPhilosophical commitment to the value of having a master curriculumWorking knowledge of accreditation and regulatory standards in program areaCompetenciesFinancial Acumen: Actively manages program P&Ls to drive enrollment growth, contain costs, and increase profitable revenue. Displays keen interest in students and organization.Required ExperienceDoctoral degree required in Business, Leadership, Innovation, Digital Studies, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, or related field.5+ years of demonstrated digital program or product management including certificate programs with a proven P&L management and portfolio of education products or services.5+ years of demonstrated teaching excellence in a variety of courses at the post-secondary level.2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience, preferably at a post-secondary institution.Experience in curriculum design, implementation, and oversight preferred.Proven track record of successful education program leadership.As an equal opportunity employer, WGU recognizes that our strength lies in our people.
