Job Description:

Safety Officer is the Director of Public Safety responsible for
overseeing the University's Department of Public Safety, which
includes the following operational divisions: University Police,
Campus Security, U Health Security, Emergency Management, Community
Services, Emergency Communications, and the central administrative

supervisors that supervise Security Officers (mentoring,
disciplinary action, scheduling, training, etc. list not
exhaustive), carries out administrative responsibilities and
performs basic and advanced-level Security Officer duties. Contract
Corporals are responsible for maintaining relationships with
contract partners, post orders, oversight of contract posts and
personnel. Coordinate with Patrol Corporals for scheduling needs
involving Patrol Officers. This position may require the successful
completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen.

COMPENSATION: $23.50 - $26.80 WORK SCHEDULE: Four 10 hour shifts
per work week. Days on shift depending on departmental needs. Must
have availability to work weekends and some holidays.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Disclaimer This job description is not designed

assigned to the job. Job Responsibilities Supervises Security
Officers mentoring, disciplinary action, scheduling, training,
Guardian Tracking etc. list not exhaustive, to ensure competent
staff. Assists with interviewing and hiring. Replaces absentee
officers on each shift and schedules additional staff for special
coverage to ensure proper security coverage. Prepares reports of
lockouts, unusual occurrences, equipment malfunctions, fire alarm
discharges, and general disturbances, to advise department heads of
potential security problems and improve internal communication for
purposes of scheduling and management direction. Ensures officers
provide complete and accurate reports and paperwork. Assists in
emergency management. Provide a security presence on Main Campus
locations. Patrol campus premises to deter criminal activity and
enhance the safety of students, staff, and faculty. Monitor
facilities in assigned areas of patrol with a walk through and
physical presence. Write reports of irregularities or incidents
which may include but are not limited to: equipment or property
damage, propped or unlocked doors, other campus safety concerns.
Request police or other emergency services in situations such as
fire, disturbances, or medical emergencies. Escort or drive motor
vehicle to patrol assigned area and /or transport individuals.
Required to provide vehicle boosts, and other motorist assistance
services. Unlocks university buildings as required and secures
university property by locking buildings. Maintain professional
demeanor during stressful situations. Adhere to University of Utah
Department of Public Safety and general University policies. May be
required to work any shift, on days off, weekends, and holidays
(All University of Utah Security Staff will work the U home
football games regardless of the person's schedule). May work in
inclement weather or extreme weather conditions. May be confined to
a service vehicle for an entire shift. Must be willing to maintain
required training. All training will be provided by the department.

that may be required: Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening,
walking Often: Sitting, repetitive hand motion (such as typing),
repetitive foot motion (such as using foot controls), bending,
twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, balancing, reaching
overhead, pulling, pushing, lifting - up to 50 pounds, lifting -
over 50 pounds QUALIFICATIONS: Two years security experience, or
equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years
of related work experience); the ability to stand and walk for
eight hours; A valid Utah Driver's License to be obtained within 6
months of hire; and the ability to pass an extensive background
check required. In addition, the incumbent is required to be on
call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Demonstrated human relation
skills and a working knowledge of radio codes and regulations along
with a commitment to provide excellent customer service are also
required. PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to individuals with
2-3 years of professional security experience. Preference may be
given to individuals with CPR/AED/First Aid certifications
Preference may be given to individuals who have experience with
computer software such as: Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook,
CCure, Avigilon and RMS. Preference may be given to individuals who
are familiar with radio communications. Summary of University
