Job SummaryThe University of Utah has an opportunity for a Cyber Security Event Analyst to help support our Information Security and Compliance goals. The analyst will follow detailed operational process and procedures to appropriately analyze, escalate critical information security events and incidents.

              Responsibilities
              • Monitoring of security events in the SIEM, as well as other security feeds (logging, email, phone, chat, and other communications)
              • Triage of incoming security events, perform preliminary analysis, validate events, and escalate to management and Sr. Staff if events require additional response.
              • Perform and document operational tasks and compliance checks as required.
              • Documenting event analysis and daily tasks in sufficient detail that the analysis process can be passed to other cyber security personnel.
              • Follow detailed operational process and procedures to appropriately analyze, escalate, and assist in remediation of information security incidents

                Minimum QualificationsAssociate's degree in a computer related field and two years of experience or equivalency recommended. Demonstrated computer skills, human relations and effective communication skills are required.

                Department Specific Qualifications:
                • Understanding of IT operations: help desk, end-point management, and server management
                • Understanding of security operation concepts: perimeter defense, BYOD management, data loss protection, insider threat, kill chain analysis, risk assessment, and security metrics
                • Understanding of adversary motivations: cybercrime, cyber hacktivism, cyberwar, cyber espionage, and the difference between cyber propaganda and cyber terrorism
                • Familiarity with basic networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, common routing protocols, OSI model, data flow, etc.), including best practices for an enterprise
                • Knowledge of common cyber attack methodologies as well as mitigations
                • Ability to explain security concepts to a broad range of audiences, both written and verbal
                • Understanding of security principles, policies, and industry best practices
                • Familiarity with next generation firewalls, EDR software, Microsoft 365 Defender, SIEM administration a plus
