Millhaven's Landscaping team is seeking a knowledgeable, experienced, career driven individual to fill the position of Landscape Estimator. Candidates that demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of landscape estimating, project management and construction, are reliable, adaptable and self-motivated will be considered. RESPONSIBILITIES:
The estimator is responsible for determining how much a project costs; how long the project should take to complete; and how much revenue the project should generate. The estimator takes into account many factors such as labor costs, material costs, equipment rental, manufacturing locations, facility costs and required permits. The estimator works closely with the project manager and design team to make sure the project meets all financial and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities:
Manage estimating workflow to provide complete proposals before bid deadlines
Review plans and specifications to determine our scope of work and the most effective production methods
Define scopes of work for various trades and distribute subcontract bid packages
Recommend and review preferred subcontractors on each job to Project Managers
Solicit written quotes for hard materials and site furnishings
Submit plant lists to Purchaser to be sourced and priced
Complete plan take-off
Assign or propose profit margins based on current pricing guidelines
Review bids with Branch and Division Managers based on approval limits
Participate in pre-job and post-job meetings
Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, designs, specifications, and related documents.
Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying designs, specifications, and related documents.
Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
Presents estimates by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Develops relationships with suppliers, vendors, subcontractors, trade partners
Assists in guiding client specs and selections decisions, sourcing materials and products
Manages client relationships and delicate conversations of finance
Monitors change orders, budgets, and final cost breakdowns
Advises clients on decisions making impact on the project and budget
Oversees analysis of blueprints, specifications, details, and/or scope of work to determine material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor requirements
Evaluates final bid proposals
Track man hours and various expenses allocated to individual projects
Offers recommendations to improve cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs
Identifies cost trends to ensure accuracy and process improvement efforts
Manages departmental time efficiently by delegating tasks, implementing due dates and deadlines, tracking workflow, and performing detailed follow-up

Qualifications:
Ability to read and understand plans and specifications
Ability to build relationships with subcontractors and customers
Strong oral and communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Ability to multi-task in fast paced work environment
Ability to use Excel, create spreadsheets, analyze data
Strong finance skills
Knowledge of landscape related materials, vendors, and suppliers
Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of the landscape industry
Proficiency in mathematics, statistics and data analysis
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Report writing and strategic planning skills
Expertise with analytic tools, such as spreadsheets and database managers
Exceptional time management
Familiarity with the principles, methods, and procedures associated with landscape construction and maintenance estimating systems and processes.

STRATEGIC WORK
As a Project Estimator your accountabilities of strategic work will include the design, implementation, and managing of strategic estimating functions that are aligned with business objectives, staff development needs, and company policies and procedures.

Develops, implements, and tracks departmental plan, performance objectives, and follow-up initiatives to ensure alignment with company business goals
Provides ideas to help improve the department and company across a range of topics (e.g., assessment, analysis, strategic planning, coordination, and innovative solutions)
Create standards for estimating procedures.
Develop standard operating procedures and policies
Establish estimating guidelines, profit margins and systems and processes that produce desired results

COMPETENCIES:
Candidates for the position of Landscape Project Estimator should possess competencies of business acumen, results oriented, high quality of decision making, organization and planning, interpersonal skills, and customer service. One should proactively view the estimating department as a strategic revenue source, the driver of gross margin, indicator of net profit and focused attention on budget, costs, forecasts, and margins for maximized financial gain, minimized costs and high value.

The Estimator maintains focus on outcomes; is proactive and goal oriented; concentrates on meeting objectives, delivering to the required time, cost, and quality; holds performance as more important than process; sets specific, measurable, and relevant goals and takes efficient action to accomplish success. Consistently makes effective, timely, and sound decisions; solicits information from multiple sources prior to making a judgment; considers implications and contingency plans associated with all decisions.

The Estimator consistently exceeds customer expectations; keeps customers well-informed, communicates through proper channels, listens attentively, and addresses their concerns; enacts a personal approach to customer service and delivers the best possible experience. Treats others with respect, collaboration, and support in such a way that work relationships are improved and morale is increased; is approachable; has effective communication skills and is professional.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
At Millhaven Landscapes, an example of the preferred level of education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and competencies for this position include a Bachelors degree and at least five (5) years of residential or commercial landscaping estimating experience similar to that presented above.
