Job DescriptionMORGAN COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION________________________________________________________________________Position: Custodial Maintenance Worker Employment: Part-timeDepartment: Public Works FLSA Status: Non-ExemptSupervisor: Public Works and Operations Director Employer: Morgan CountyEffective Date: 05/12/202220 hours per week/No Benefits. Possible work into Full-time in the future. Under the direction of the Morgan County Public Works Director, the custodian maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors, ensuring all areas are safe. Responsible for locking-up county buildings each evening and disposing of waste paper and other discards. Performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Turns off lights and locks up buildings. Responsible for securing county buildings/facilities each evening.
  • Disposes of waste paper and other discards; collects and places trash in an incinerator or trash pickup area.
  • Sweeps, dusts and wet mops floors or stairs, using brooms, dust mops, vacuums, wet mops and floor machines.
  • Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture, counters, shelving, window/door ledges and casings, using cloths and cleaning/polishing solutions.
  • Dusts, wet mops and washes walls, ceilings and partitions, using wall brushes, wet mops, cloths and cleaning solutions.
  • Cleans lavatories, toilets and bath facilities, using cleansers and sanitizing solutions, brushes, cloths and squeegees.
  • Shovels snow and sweeps sidewalks, steps and driveways; removes trash, cleans restrooms and washes equipment.
  • Spot cleans carpets and rugs, using a rug shampooing machine, brush, or cloth and cleaning solutions.
  • Performs other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:
    • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, preferably 18 years of age or over; AND
      • Must possess a valid Utah Drivers' LicenseNECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
        • Ability to perform both indoor and outdoor physically demanding duties.
          • Ability to understand and follow oral/verbal work instructions.
          • Ability to perform physical tasks involving bending, squatting, standing for extended periods of time, pushing, reaching and some lifting.
          • Ability to learn to operate a variety of hand tools and power equipment such as a putty knife, squeegee, floor machine and vacuum.
          • Works and communicates with internal and external clients and customers to meet their needs in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner. Committed to quality service.
          • Displays a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently. Works with minimal supervision. Demonstrates responsible behavior and attention to detail.
          • Responds appropriately to supervision. Makes an effort to follow policy and cooperate with supervisors.

Committed to quality service.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:The physical demands of this position and work environment characteristics described are representative of those that must be met or will be encountered by an employee while successfully performing the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally lifts, carries, pushes, pulls, or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 80 pounds.Work is performed in environmentally controlled and partially environmentally controlled buildings and work is regularly performed for sustained periods outdoors and occasionally in hot, cold, or inclement weather; work is regularly performed in noisy places; exposes incumbent to possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, or machinery; requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.; and work exposes incumbent to unknown, dangerous, and/or life-threatening conditions.Work exposes incumbent to conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and noise; exposes the incumbent to hazardous chemicals, and to hazards in the cleanup of body fluids and other biological hazards.Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate tools, computers and various pieces of office equipment.
