Big-D Construction, has an Estimating Intern opportunity located in Salt Lake City, UT.
Position Description:
This position is an entry level role which is part of our college internship program and is limited to only 2021-2023 school year graduates.
The Estimating Intern position will assist in producing detailed estimates from preliminary design through the construction phase, detect clashes and coordinate trades in our BIM department. The intern will evaluate drawings and bid specifications to determine project requirements and estimate costs to achieve profitability goals for the company.
Curriculum:
Big-D and the approved higher education providers have mutually agreed upon learning objectives based on the company's needs and the goals of the intern.

• The intern will participate in New Hire Orientation
• The intern will understand Big-D's safety program:
  
  • They Can correctly complete a TH!NK form related to field activities.
  • They will participate in a personal safety interaction (PSI)
  • The intern will be introduced to construction technology
  • Participate in a Bluebeam studio session
  • Scan, print plans and post drawings for subcontractors on website
  • Call subcontractors and develops interest in projects
  • Coordinate the sending of bid faxes for projects
  • Help define work scope and select subcontractors
  • Begin learning how to do quantity takeoffs in Onscreen Takeoff
  • Begin assembling estimates in Timberline and understand estimating organization
  • The intern will be exposed to the field and office environments; learning about construction reports, safety, quality, schedule, technology, and cost. Qualifications:
    • Pursuing a 4 year college degree within Construction Management or related field
    • Formal engineering, architectural training, or equivalent construction experience is highly desirable
    • Must have good interpersonal and teamwork skills and a desire to learn
    • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
    • Proficient with computer applications as required to perform responsibilities
    • A basic understanding of scheduling programs is preferred Additional items required:
      • A reference letter from professor or Big-D employee
      • Copy of current transcript showing grades
        
        • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
        • Must complete an in-person interview when hired and an exit interview when internship is completed.
